First we need to begin with you creating an account. In the top right corner you need to click on the "sign up".
This will take you to a page where you need to input a user name, password and your email address. I suggest you use some form of your name to offer students something to search for you later. You are given an option to Upgrade your account for $10. It is not necessary! Go with the Free Quizlet. If in time you decide you need the advanced options given your material, subject matter, or technological genius, it is easy to upgrade at that point.
Once you have completed that process you will be sent a confirmation email. You can continue on with the creating of sets at this point, but I would suggest confirming with the email and then returning (using the link sent in the email) to Quizlet. This should be where you end up.
Once you have been confirmed you should end up at your Homepage. These are the two areas that you will need to pay the most attention to on your Homepage.
Just under the Quizlet logo/title you will see a menu bar. These will help you navigate the site as you are creating cards. They are fairly self-explanatory.
Home will bring you back to the location you are currently.
My Dashboard shows you the cards and sets that you have created. If you create groups (more later) you will see members of your groups.
My Groups will allow you to create groups to help categorize your flashcards. If you teach multiple subjects or grade levels this could be beneficial to you.
Find Flashcards will allow you to search from sets of cards already created by other Quizlet users. Remember...just because we are teachers we don't have to reinvent the wheel EVERY day.
Make Flashcards is exactly what you want to do when you want to begin a new set.
The other area that I mentioned as being helpful is the large, colorful menu in the middle of your screen. These are the most useful and straight forward tools on the Homepage.
You are officially a Quizlet user! You need to make some flashcards! Click either "Make Flashcards" option on the Homepage. You will be directed to the creation page. You will fill in the necessary information to help your students find and identify the cards that they need. The first thing you see looks like this:
Once you have completed the Set Information you can scroll down and begin adding your information and data to create your cards! Do not be concerned if you have 8 words or even 18 words and see only the preset list for 5 terms and definitions. After you reach that last definition, a stroke of the tab key sends you to another row. You can continue adding rows in this manner indefinitely (I suppose, I have never gone that far...)
Please notice this top left option under "Enter your flash cards". You can copy and paste your information from other sources (Word, Excel, etc) in order to keep from retyping or even copying and pasting one cell at a time. To use this function you simply click on the link and follow the instructions to upload your flashcards. This is a great tool if you have a long list!
Once you have entered in the terms and definitions, you finalize your set by clicking the "create set" button found at the bottom of the screen.
Congratulations! You have just created your first set of Quizlet cards!
Part II: Registering and creating your own cards!
